Additional Materials Required: A paper copy of the CFR Ch. 20, Parts 400-499. This is the book that you will have access to at the exam so it is imperative that you are familiar with using a paper copy! Participants in the past have borrowed it from colleagues, reviewed it at law libraries, or have purchased it from or the US Printing Office.

The program modules will take you through the CFR, identifying important citations for your studies. In addition to the CFR, we will also point out some references from POMS, HALLEX or even some Rulings, all of which can be found online at The online modules will also include links to these references.

Course Outline:

Technical/Procedural: Covers issues such as SSDI and SSI eligibility, appeal procedures, fee issues, and other benefits as well as case and hearing procedure.

Medical: Regulations that cover evaluating medically determinable impairments in disability claims, and SSA's Listings of Impairments, which make up Step 3 of the Sequential Evaluation Process.

Vocational: Focusing on Steps 4 and 5 of the Sequential Evaluation Process, this module will go through the important citations regarding vocational evaluation of claims, with special attention paid to understanding of the medical vocational tables or "grids".

Ethical: The important policy related to  affirmative duties and prohibited actions of representatives, as well as other rules of conduct.

Each chapter will contain a ten question quiz meant to test your knowledge over the topics presented. The answers to the quizzes with video explanation will be posted for your review. A 50 question sample exam will be distributed in April, followed by a live Q&A call where questions and answers will be discussed.  New this year, there will also be a forum built into the E-course for participants to discuss topics with each other.

All of this is included in the cost of the course. Participants will also receive a quick study guide full of basic information that should be memorized. We want to do everything we can to not only prepare you for the exam, but to also help you succeed as a representative!
